Amex launches Double Rewards for all Platinum cardmembers

American Express has just launched a new promotion to promote spends on the high-end cards of American Express and help them ride out the CoVid-19 crisis. The new promotion offers Amex Membership Rewards Double Points to all American Express Platinum Cardmembers.

The new promotion offers you double points earning through July 20, 2020. American Express is also offering double value on Membership Rewards points redemption for cash during this period.

  • Double Membership Rewards points earning: Through Double Rewards, American Express is offering double points on all earnings through July 20, 2020. This means, for all domestic spends on the American Express Platinum Card during this period (from April 21 – July 20, 2020), American Express will offer 5 Membership Rewards points per INR 100. For all international spends, it becomes 15 points per INR 100 for international spends (online spends as well!)
  • Double value for Membership Rewards Select & Redeem redemptions: If as an American Express Platinum Cardmember you choose to pay (or part-pay) for any item on your Card statement with points – using Select & Redeem – you’ll enjoy twice the value. Select & Redeem usually gives you INR 250 value for 1000 MR points redemption, but in this case, the value will extend to INR 500 for 1000 MR points redemption.

The promotion is only focused on the American Express Platinum Card. You don’t need to sign up for this promotion; it is already activated in your accounts.

In other geographies, such as Singapore, the Centurion Cardmembers have also received a promotion for double Membership Rewards points and value. Still, we don’t have any confirmation for Indian cardmembers on that at the moment. This post will be updated if the information is received to this effect.

Bottomline

This is an excellent promotion from American Express, trying to add value to their Platinum Cardmembers even while they are home and restart spending on their American Express Platinum Cards. The amount offered on the redemptions is excellent as well, with each Membership Rewards point worth INR 0.5 at the moment, which is certainly pretty good value.

What do you think of this new effort from American Express aimed at their Platinum Cardmembers?

  3. Not sure if someone tried redeeming the points through Select & Redeem. I still see a conversion rate of 1000 MR = Rs 250 there. Is it that the 2X bonus will get applied at the backend? If someone has tried redeeming the points, please confirm.

  4. Hi Ajay need a suggestion on AMEX play charge card renewal ? It’s time to renew the card. Did any card holders got any offers? Is it worth to renew at this time ? Few option came to me a) 20k taj Voucher b) 50k points c) 12 months emi … I didn’t accepted and Today the executive told me they can give me double value to my existing points ( 1.9 lac points so the value become from 46k to 92k) I asked them if it’s double value why not give me same amount of points … can any one guide me at this point…

  5. This is not published on the website. Earlier also I had seen offer on amex platinum card here and it never appeared on their website or the sms they send for all such offers.
By the way last month they sent an sms saying that they are adding extra points if you use amex platinum to load a certain amount, I think Rs 10k, on paytm as bonus points.

  6. I usually use Amex points to Marriott, which is usually .6-1 value. With this and a .5 value, not a bad alternative. And 2.5% back As statement credit vs 3.3% on infinia/DCB limited to travel isnt a bad option overall.

Question is: Do we renew platinum with dilution of all the travel benefits.

  7. Hi Ajay, is this targeted offer or for all platinum charge card holders? Haven’t received any communication yet

  8. I was wondering this week why is Amex sleeping and haven’t come up with some goodies like these.

Great I can start punching plat charge digits again 🙂

    Thanks for the quick update.
