Amex Double Points Promotion on Educational Spends

American Express has been expanding the ambit of the card acceptance over time in India, and one of their big wins recently has been to go very deep in the educational segment. To promote their reach in the education segment, there is a new Amex Double Points Promotion, offering double Membership Rewards points for paying Educational Expenses such as tuition fees, admission fees and books on their proprietary Credit Cards and Charge Cards between January 4, 2019, and March 31, 2019.

The promotion works on the following credit and charge cards, and no other cards such as co-branded cards or those issued by Amex partner banks, including Amex Corporate Cards:

For the American Express Platinum Card and the American Express Centurion Card, cardmembers will earn one bonus Membership Rewards point on every INR 40 spent at education institutions in this list.

For the American Express Gold Card/ American Express Platinum Reserve Credit CardAmerican Express Platinum Travel Credit Card/ American Express Gold Credit Card/ American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card, members will get 1 Bonus Membership Rewards point in addition to one point earned regularly, on every INR 50 spent at education institutions in this list.

The Bonus Membership Rewards Points will get credited to Cardmember’s account within five working days from the date of the transaction. Here are the complete T&C of the promotion. It does not indicate that this is a capped promotion.

Bottomline

It is fantastic when you can earn miles for stuff that you are already going to have to do, such as paying a school fee or depositing rent for your home. But when you are going to get double points to do that, it is all the more reason to do so.
