Reminder: Alaska Airlines Buy Miles Promotion through July 1, 2020 (IST)

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is one of my favourite mileage programmes for many reasons, but one of them is their frequent sales which provide umpteen opportunities to buy miles. There is also great value in their redemptions.

Alaska Airlines currently has an ongoing promotion on the sale of miles, which was on offer from June 22, 2020 through June 28, 2020. It has now been extended through June 30, 2020, 11:59 PM Pacific Summer Time (12:29 PM July 1, 2020). Alaska Airlines, this time around, is offering customised bonuses to every account, which means you get a customised bonus plan for you. The bonus can go as high as 60%, which is something they have only done once before.

For instance, my account has been targetted for an up to 50% bonus, depending on the number of miles I buy.

Here is my offer.

  • Buy 3,000 – 29,000 miles, get a 40% bonus
  • Buy 30,000 – 100,000 miles, get a 50% bonus

If I were to go through with the top end of my promotion, I could buy 150,000 miles at the cost of 2750 USD, which is 1.83 US Cents / INR 1.38 per Alaska Airlines mile.

The maximum number of miles you can purchase per transaction is 100,000 before any bonuses, and 150,000 per calendar year. If you have been working towards Alaska Airlines status by crediting your other airline’s miles to Alaska, you don’t have any limits to worry about in terms of the number of miles you can buy. Remember, you can buy miles more than once. All you need is an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account more than ten days old.

Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan has some great partners for earning and redemptions, which work in Asia as well as Europe and the Americas. Some of their partners I like are:

Alaska Airlines recently enabled awards on Singapore Airlines, but eliminated stopovers on awards within Asia. However, they do allow complimentary stopovers on one-way awards otherwise. For instance, if you are flying from New York to Delhi on Emirates, feel free to make a stop in Dubai for a few days if you so wish. Or flying Singapore Airlines from the USA to India, feel free to stop in Singapore on the way back.

There are some significant redemptions you can make with your Alaska Airlines Miles:

  • India to the USA on Emirates First Class for 150,000 Miles
  • India to the USA on Emirates Business Class for 82,500 Miles
  • India to Europe on Singapore Airlines First Class for 160,000 Miles (Suites all the way)
  • India to Japan on Singapore Airlines Business Class for 65,000 Miles
  • India to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific Business Class for 30,000 Miles.

You should use an American Express Platinum Charge Card or a Citi Prestige because the purchase will be processed in US Dollars by Points.Com and this way you get bonus points for your purchase due to it being an international purchase.

Bottomline

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has just a couple of more days to go for their latest promotion on the purchase of miles. There are many great uses of Alaska AirlinesMileage Plan. Ultimately crunch the numbers before making a purchase.

Do you plan on buying Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles with this promotion?
