Video: Turbulence onboard Air India causes window panel to fall off

Just a day after the SouthWest incident where a passenger died after being sucked out through a plane window, we saw another window mishap, this time on Air India. A new Air India Turbulence Video has surfaced. The incident occurred on April 19, 2018, on board AI 462, being operated by a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, registered as VT-ANI. It is said to be caused due to some freak turbulence that came out of nowhere.

The footage, recorded by yet another social media savvy chap, shows what happened right after Air India’s flight between Amritsar and Delhi got into severe turbulence. This caused a window frame to come loose and three people needed hospital treatment in the aftermath. Overhead oxygen masks were also deployed during the flight.

As per reports, one person who was not wearing a belt hit his head into the overhead bins due to a bump and had injuries. Luckily, the outside window did not break, and there was no depressurisation of the cabin.

The aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation, along with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB).

Bottomline

While I am glad that nothing happened to the people concerned in this case, it is exactly the reason I hope we all wear our seat belts even when seated, so that we don’t get caught up into surprise incidents. I hope all of you take due care during your travels.

  1. I recently few Air India twice, their flights are in worst conditions, even in Dreamliner business class, panels were falling off, IFE was very difficult to open up and refused to go back inside.
Air India express is the worst flight I have ever seen but I thought they won’t compromise on safety, but this window panel coming off is very scary thing.
