As Qantas plans to launch flights between Delhi and Sydney in December 2021, Air India has beaten them to the punch already by adding flights between Delhi and Sydney from November 15, 2021, onwards.
Air India returns to Sydney from November 15, 2021, onwards
Air India has launched flights under their evacuation flights mission Vande Bharat which is now in phase 15. As per Air India’s schedule, they are operating flights between Delhi and Sydney using a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The flights operate per the following schedule:
- Delhi to Sydney departs Delhi IGI Airport (DEL) at 1:15 pm and arrives in Sydney (SYD) the following day at 07:10 am local time three times a week.
- Sydney to Delhi departs Sydney (SYD) at 10:15 am and arrives in Delhi IGI Airport (DEL) the same day at 5:25 pm local time three times a week.
Since the flights are still being operated as relief flights, there is no regular schedule for these flights in terms of the day of the week. However, you can refer to this schedule to find out when the flights are operating. This is a smart move.
Qantas plans to launch a flight to Delhi from Sydney. However, there is still no air bubble between India and Australia signed up, and it is unknown if any discussions are in the works. Given India has currently decided not to open up commercial flights, this could get tricky for Qantas if the Indian airspace is closed next month to commercial flights from other countries.
Remember, for now, Air India will only be able to fly those who have a resident permit or citizenship in Australia, and tourism is not open at the moment.
While Qantas is still working on launching flights between Australia and India, Air India has one-upped them by launching flights on the route already, operating with a Boeing 787-8 aircraft non-stop in both directions. The flights are scheduled till March 27, 2022, 3x a week in both directions for now.
Is anyone booked on these Air India 787-8 flights between Delhi and Sydney?
